Real Kids Shades Review

Thank you Real Kids Shades for the glasses to help with my review
"Since 2002, we’ve made it our mission to protect as many children’s eyes as possible from the damaging effects of UV radiation. We launched Real Kids Shades when we couldn’t find an inexpensive pair of real protective sunglasses for our own kids. The idea was simple. Offer affordable, real sunglasses designed just for kids. And manufacture them with the best materials available and ensure they block 100% of the sun’s harmful rays."

Our girls are 5 1/2 yrs old, 4 yrs old, and 16 months old. I've never really thought much about eye protection. Sure, we've bought the cute kids sunglasses, but they always ended up inside and never really worn out doors.

When it comes to our children, we always want to do the best we can for them. We use sun block during the hot months and coats, hats, and gloves during the cold months, so why not go the extra step and ensure their eyes are protected too!
Yesterday was the perfect opportunity for us to use our shades to the max! A local church had a free festival day with food and games, so we decided to pack up the kiddos and have a fun day outside. The sun was beaming down on us and at 12:30pm it was already in the 80s, so all I could think about was how glad I was to have a pair of Real Kids Shades for all the girls.

I wasn't sure how Macyn would do because there wasn't anything for her to do except sit in the stroller and watch her sisters. The girls won a couple little games and she had some toys to play with, but I felt bad that all she did was sit. With all the sitting also comes the sun. We had the canopy shade pulled over her, a nice cup of water, and sun block so the extra protection for her eyes was great!

Macyn doesn't like things on her head (bows, hats, head bands) so she did get them off a lot the first couple times she wore them. I was happy to see though that besides one time, she left them alone. I feel like she knew they were there for a purpose and possibly seeing me wearing my sunglasses all day and then seeing the girls in their's when not doing something else, made her ok with the situation.

Even though there is a band around Macyn's glasses, she can still easily pull them down. Since they're flexible and made to bend, she pulls right at the nose and they contort to her face and slide down around her neck. I have to loosen both sides to get the band to go over her head (our kids have big sized heads) and then a quick tighten on each side after ensuring they're centered, and we're good to go!

Please note, Madison was NOT fully strapped in when I took this photo :)

Madison and McKenzie's glasses are so cute on their little dainty faces. With the options of multiple colors, the girls were able to get pairs in their correct size and in their favorite shade. Madison is our oldest and feels that they're too small for her face, but I think that's because she's used to sunglasses from places like Target or Claire's which are meant for 10+ and never stay on her face right.

I try to keep all the girls shades in the van so we always have them, they don't get torn up in the home, and no matter what they day brings us, we'll always have them since they're always in the family vehicle.

Our older girls have the Flex Shades for ages 3-7 yrs old.
The frames are rubberized so they're made to bend without breaking, and the lenses are shatter proof and poly-carbonate with 100% UVA and UVB protection. Another great feature is that they're water proof and rust proof so you can use them literally anywhere and they're still safe to use and able to protect.
The Flex Shades retail for $14.99/pair and come in 9 colors.

Macyn has the My First Shades glasses for 0-24 months.
These shades have the same features as the Flex Shades I described above, as well as no hinges for possible pinching and an adjustable neoprene band. My First Shades can also be fit to prescription glasses by a professional if need be! How cool is that?!
My First Shades retail for $14.99 and come in 12 colors.

You can also buy My First Shades for ages 2-5 yrs with a band and come in 8 colors.

One more great item I'd like to mention is their Sun Hat Combo Pack
This set retails for $28.99 and comes in pink or blue.
This is designed for ages 0-24 months

Overall, I highly recommend Real Kids Shades.

Macyn will be 2yrs old in February so if this baby is a girl, I plan on giving Macyn's shades to this baby and then getting the 2-5yr My First Shades (with head band) for Macyn next Spring.

I'm so very glad I was able to work with Real Kids Shades and I'm anxious to purchase in the future!

I like the Flex Duo Shades 3 - 7 Years in purple/pink. I think it is great that this awesome eye protection comes in colours and styles that my children would choose themselves.
