Get Fit Friday Week 3

Last week I shared useful apps with you that help with weight loss, including calorie counting apps and exercising apps. Today I'm going to give you the basic information you'll need to know about your body and how it works so you can make healthy decisions.

First, set yourself a goal. Not a ridiculous 75lb goal either, start little. Let's say a 5 or 10 pound goal. It's easy to get discouraged if you set a high number for yourself. You'll constantly think, "Oh, that's so much weight. I'll never get there." and then you give up on yourself. Stop that. Baby steps. Sure, it might take a long time to lose weight but that time is going to pass anyway, whether you're trying to get healthy or not. It took more than a day to put it on, so it'll take more than a day to take it off.

The eat right rule: If it can go bad, it's good for you. If it can't go bad, it's bad for you.

Did you know that sometimes your stomach will growl when you're thirsty? That's right! You might be eating when your body is only craving water. Drink a bottle of water and wait 30 minutes. If the growling stops, you were only thirsty.

Are you a bored eater like I am? That's a tough thing to overcome. What I like to do is when I'm bored (and seriously thinking about grabbing a bag of chips to munch on) I hop on pinterest.com instead and look for a craft to do. Here's my latest craft.

DO NOT skip meals. When you skip meals, your metabolism slows down, and you are not burning calories like you should. Your body thinks that you are starving so when you eat again, your body stores away more than usual, resulting in more fat! You need to make sure you eat 1200 calories a day or more to prevent your body from going into starvation mode. The apps I discussed last week will tell you how many calories you should eat daily.

Get motivated. Constantly remind yourself that you WILL do this. Make yourself weight loss jars, make a board, make a wall! Just get motivated.

Most importantly, do something today that your future self will thank you for.

Next week I'll start you where I started, calorie counting.
