Thank you Baby K'Tan for the Carrier to help with this review
Baby K’tan was founded by two couples, the Chesals and Wernicks. Each family was raising a child with special needs, and with a desire to carry their babies as much as possible for parent-child bonding, both couples experimented with different baby slings and carriers. Not finding the ideal carrier, they improved and incorporated different aspects from various slings and created the Baby K’tan!
Being pregnant has made me think of several little things in the upcoming months, one of these being school functions with a newborn. I'm due in early December which means I'll have two functions to go to since our children are in school. I always prefer to keep my newborns as sheltered as possible for the first few weeks of life because of germs, but I will have no choice when it comes to also being there for our older children. I decided to look around at carriers that can work well for small newborns, and I found Baby K'Tan! After looking around on their site, I knew that they would be a perfect carrier to use now with Macyn as a toddler, and then with the new baby once she arrives this Winter.
The two above pictures are my FIRST time using the Baby K'tan in the Hip Position and Kangaroo Position while 7 1/2 months pregnant. I opted to share these photos because I figured "How hard can this be? Put it on, get your child, and you're off!" I was wrong and quickly learned that practice makes perfect!
I have one other carrier, Boba, which is just snap and go but I didn't like it with Macyn as a tiny baby, so I knew I needed something else to help once I have Mya and will be out and about in public. I quickly discovered that I needed to read up some more, watch more videos, and try to fully understand what I was doing since my 2nd picture looks nothing like the stock photo you saw toward the top of the post. I think being pregnant does have an affect on the fit currently since it gets in the way, but Only have 10 or less weeks left means there isn't a long wait.
The fit while pregnant is doable and doesn't seem to bother Macyn or myself. I know now if I carry her anywhere, she quickly get heavy and is always sliding down my hip as I waddle to our destination, so this is a quick and easy solution to help with that! Macyn was comfortable being by my side, and I found that my arm didn't quickly get tired of carrying her since the carrier is my main support base.
I am excited to continue to learn more about Baby K'tan and read up on their directions so I can be secure in knowing everything there is to know when Mya is born in December. This carrier will see a lot of use in the winter months and I'm so happy that I have these months to use with Macyn, and practice to become the pro I want to be when our new bundle arrives.
One major thing I wanted to be able to do with a newborn and a carrier is breastfeed. I knew it would be possible with the Baby K'Tan but with these great steps and advice, it ensures the best way possible of being successful and I'm really grateful that they'd include a page like this. Breastfeeding for us is normal and I've fed all my children, so I know this will come in very handy in the newborn stages when I have things to do around the home and school functions to attend with the baby.
I really like that their book has all the holds in step by step directions WITH pictures. I'm such a visual person and pictures help me so much more then just reading directions. I'm glad that as the baby ages, I'll be able to come back to the book, see recommended ages for each style of carry, and refresh my memory on how to do it properly.
Being plus size, I've always been wary of ordering online. I however was happy to see that Baby K'Tan tries to give as detailed info as possible to ensure a correct size. When looking at their Sizing Instructions, you'll not only find the above image, but also other little details to take in to consideration when ordering such as height or if you're in-between sizes on the chart.
You can purchase these carriers in different sizes and colors directly from the Baby K'Tan website. I have the "Breeze" carrier which also has mesh to create more airflow. The basic carriers retail for $50 and the "Breeze" versions as well as Organic carriers retail for $60
I'll also being posting a follow up in the Spring about my use of Baby K'Tan carrier with Mya from newborn age to 3 months old!
