Baby Mya has arrived!

According to ovulation, my due date was Dec 11. According to my 20 week ultrasound, Mya was measuring with a due date of Dec 7, and that came and went. I was really surprised that she hadn't arrived and while everyone was on pins and needles waiting to see when she'd arrive, I also thought it was fun to hit that 40 week mark for the first time in all my pregnancies! I had a lot of false labor in the last couple weeks of my pregnancy and it got me really down at times. I would get sick from it all, and it would get everyone anxious and on alert for nothing to ultimately happen. I remember thinking "I hope all this false labor means the real thing will happen quickly!"

Since my Dr classified me over "over due" I had an appt on Monday Dec 9. I told him I wasn't wanting an induction even though she was "late", so he stripped my membranes instead and I was measuring 2-3cm and 50% effaced. He also wanted a stress test done to see how Mya was doing, and to see what my period cramps were doing. I hadn't slept well the night before and felt crampy all day, so he decided to see if they were minor contractions or something else. After getting back home to the baby sitter with the update, fixing a quick dinner, and meeting my husband after he got off work, we arrived at the hospital at 6:10pm. After checking in and getting in the room, the stress test showed that Mya was doing amazing and proving that the sweep worked because my cramps had turned in to full blown contractions every 3-5 min. The Dr said I should walk the halls to see how things go, but before that I requested a cervical check so the hospital had an updated check, and that shockingly revealed I was 5cm dialated at 7pm.

Since I have fast labors, we decided to skip the walking, get moved to my delivery room, and get things started and paperwork out of the way! I also let them know that I was having back labor and walking just wasn't something I wanted to do. My Dr also waived the IV, so I was wire free and able to move around my room as I pleased!

Our hospital changed their policies, so I was able to have my husband and sister (coach), my sister's long time boyfriend, one of my nephews, and my mother. I liked having all the people in my room because it seemed to make things go easier and we could joke and laugh in-between the pains. This was nice for me because the back labor was no joke!

One funny thing to point out is that Mya didn't appreciate the baby monitor. Either I was holding it against my stomach, or the nurse would sit with me and follow her around my tummy. I remember feeling her move around and kick because anything on my stomach annoys her, so it was fun to experience as we waited for her to arrive.

After several hours, intense contractions, and more cervical checks, I was still at 5cm. I was getting nervous that I would fail myself because the pain was getting so intense and I was not able to be comfortable unless I got a break in contractions. As we watched the clock turn to midnight and after, I wondered if something was wrong, or if our Diva was just THAT stubborn in wanting to make her entrance in to the world. After breaking down from the pain, having no sleep, and wanting to be done with labor, I finally ok'd my Dr to break my water. I want to say I said yes around 1:30am, so once they paged my Dr, he got down to my room, and they did one last check, I was pushing 6cm dilated, 90% effaced, and then had a bag break.

I started to have a contraction in the middle of breaking my water, and then suddenly with the next one, came the urge to push. My Dr had just walked out of the room, so the nurse paged him and another nurse, and we quickly got everything set up so I could deliver because I immediately went to 8cm.

My Dr decided to give me shots of medicine in case I tore, and that wasn't too bad. I've never had shots "down there" before but with wanting to push, I didn't really care what happened as long as she came out soon. I however, didn't give the shots time to take affect, so they were pointless because I didn't tear.

After two pushes for her head, I was told to stop pushing so she could glide out and the cord could be unwrapped from her neck. After that was taken care of, I had one final push for her body and we had our baby girl, Mya Sue, born December 10 at 1:53am weighing in at 7lb 11.5oz and was 19 3/4 inches long.

Hospital changed policies to do skin to skin for first hour vs measuring and cleaning first, so she nursed and ended up taking about 2hrs because she acted starving. She was awake the whole time and we all got to bask in her beautiful face and flawless features, as she laid on my chest and ate until her heart was content.
