Get Fit Friday Week 1

Welcome to Get Fit Friday where I'll be talking about what I've learned about getting fit after having children. I'll let you in on how to start and what helps me stay on track. I'll also share how to fit work-outs into your busy mom schedule.

I'd like to start with my story and why I decided to change my eating habits. I had always been overweight, even as a child. But as a child, it never bothered me. As I got older, turning into a teenager, I started to be more and more self conscious about how I looked and especially about how much I weighed. That's when I discovered "crash dieting". Basically, I would eat very very few calories everyday. Sometimes only a can of tuna and some crackers, but it worked! I was finally losing weight.. and fast! But, I also was very weak, very sleepy, moody and depressed. The lack of nutrition was taking a toll out on my body.. my mind.. I wasn't myself. Around this time I had met my future husband, Jacob. He made me happy again and I started back eating everyday. I graduated high school May 2008 and a month later on my 18th birthday we moved from Mississippi to New Mexico.
Two months later I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant! We were ecstatic!

As time went on, Jacob was working close to 14 hours a day and I was alone a lot of the time.. in this new place.. in a new state. I didn't know anyone, I didn't have a drivers license, I stayed cooped up in our house all day. Everyday. Alone. I turned to food for comfort. Of course I could just lose all the weight after I have the baby right? Wrong. We moved back to Mississippi and I gained 70 pounds from that pregnancy. Here I was, with the sweetest, most beautiful 8lb 15oz baby girl yet, still miserable.
A few months later I had lost all 70 pounds... through crash dieting. But soon after, I started eating again and the weight packed back on. I decided I wasn't going to weigh myself. The scale was making me miserable.
February 2012 I had gotten sick. Very sick. I had a UTI that I left untreated and it turned into Pyelonephritis, which can be life threatening. I ended up in the emergency room where they weighed me. I wasn't prepared to see that number. I wasn't. But there it was. 190. How did this happen? How did I gain 40 pounds in 3 years? At that moment I felt more sick about that number than I did with a UTI. It was time for a change. I had to figure out a way to lose weight and keep it off because crash dieting just wasn't the answer.
I searched and read. Pinterest.com's Health and Fitness section became my addiction. That's when I found this picture...

Pregnancy: How to Deal with Nausea

With each pregnancy comes the expected nausea and possibly vomiting. Of course we all know this isn't the fun part, but have you ever looked at it the other way around? Nausea and vomiting can be a great sign that the baby is growing, doing well, and thriving in the womb of love you've created.

With my first daughter, I had no idea I was pregnant. I had no early symptoms (that I could tell) and didn't realize I was pregnant until it dawned on me my period was extremely late and I later tested. I rarely got sick, and the couple times I did it was from brushing my teeth and hitting a sensitive gag reflux.

One year after the birth of our first daughter and newly pregnant with baby #2, I was the complete opposite. I was sick all the time in the morning for my whole first trimester, on top of taking care of a 12 month old, I thought it would never end! I didn't really know of anything to take to help me, so I just delt with it, and always made sure I was close to a bathroom.

With baby #3 I was a mix of my first two pregnancies. I was nauseous a lot BUT this time I had a secret weapon. I did a blog review for Three Lollies with their preggie drops and they helped me so much! Each morning I would pop one in my mouth and then I'd be good to go. I had a few days of needing multiple drops, but I never once got sick and I'm very proud of that! ;)

Here we are at pregnancy #4. I've had almost no real symptoms this time around. I've only experience nausea a handful of times and my preggie drops quickly helped me address the issue. I've never gotten sick and never really been close to feeling like I would except two times.

Summer Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop Grand Prize!

Welcome to the 2nd annual Summer Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop! Heather from Mommy's Favorite Things started this event last year and now Mama's Baby Cupcakes is co-hosting.

This hop is focused on items you'd want/need for everything cloth diaper related! After visiting my giveaway, make sure you use the linky below to take a look at the other 20+ blogs and see what they have to offer for you and your little one! Each blog has a minimum prize package of $25 per winner.

FUNKY FLUFF & STUFF INC. was founded by two long time friends, Kathy Bello and Tricia Corda. We are a small Canadian home based business and a team of two moms located in Toronto, Ontario. We are both cloth diapering mommas and each of us has two boys who are almost the same age!

Funky Fluff is the only diaper that I know of that can be used THREE ways! This diaper is perfect for people that are new to the cloth diapering world and would like to try different styles without spending $15/diaper.

All In Two (AI2) diapers are fabulous. You simply lay the insert in the diaper and then with each diaper change, you use the same cover with new inserts until soiled with poo. This means you can buy less diapers and apply the money toward more inserts.

Pocket Diapers are just that, pockets! You insert the soaker fully in to the sleeve, snap at one of the ends to keep it in place, and then go about your day until next change. You then change the whole diaper and move on to the next. With Funky Fluff's soakers, they come out in the wash, so there's no need to touch the dirty soaker.

All in One Diapers are very convenient and another favorite of many. With Funky Fluff's system, you simply put the soaker in the pocket, snap BOTH ends to the diaper and that's it. You can leave it exactly how it is and it will wash clean. My favorite feature of this is that you can take the soaker out every now and then to ensure it's extra clean, or to give it extra TLC where as normal All In One diapers you can't because its all sewn in to one and there's no way to get inside.

You can purchase the Stay Dry 3-in-1 System for $20.45/diaper.
You also have the option to purchase the Bamboo 3-in-1 System for $22.40/diaper
There's 17 color options available, with 2 patterns (owls & bubbles)
Extra soakers range in price depending on size and regular or bamboo.
Shipping is another plus at $10 flat rate or FREE over purchases of $60!

Check out my review to see the fit on our 16 month old daughter and then one winner will have the chance to win 6 Fusion Stay Dry 3-in-1 cloth diapers from Funky Fluff with your choice of Boy/Girl/Neutral colors. That's a retail value of $122!

Funky Fluff Cloth Diaper Review

Thank you Funky Fluff for the diaper to help with this review

FUNKY FLUFF & STUFF INC. was founded by two long time friends, Kathy Bello and Tricia Corda. We are a small Canadian home based business and a team of two moms located in Toronto, Ontario. We are both cloth diapering mommas and each of us has two boys who are almost the same age!

From the first time I heard about Funky Fluff, I fell in love with the above birds print. I was so happy when Funky Fluff agreed to a review of this fabulous looking diaper! With the gender of baby #4 still unknown at this point, I was excited to get such a neutral diaper that I could use in the future no matter if we have another girl or are blessed with a boy.

Macyn is 16 months old and currently weighs about 24 lbs. I was really surprised at how nice and soft the soakers are, and how nice the diaper looks in person. This diaper is made to fit children 7-35lbs and has three rise settings and hip snaps to prevent wing droop. With each diaper you also get TWO soakers. One is for small settings and light wetters with 3 layers of microfiber and 1 layer of stay dry fabric, while the other is for older children and the heavy wetters they become with 4 layers of microfiber and 1 layer of stay dry fabric.

Zookaboo Sponsor Spotlight #SummerCloth

Thank you Zookaboo for sponsoring the upcoming #SummerCloth giveaway

Michele, a former school teacher, is a stay at home mother of two and started her company after wanting something fun to do in her spare time with at home with the kiddos. Cloth diaper covers seemed to be the obvious choice since her family used cloth, and thus Zookaboo was formed!

I first worked with Michele back in January 2012 when our middle daughter was a few months shy of her 3rd birthday. I was new to the pre-fold and covers world, but I fell in love with Michele's covers and knew before I took the plunge to purchase more that it would be best to try one and see what they were like.

Now that Macyn is 16 months, I've been using pre-folds on her more as well. I seem to prefer them around nap time because they can hold more, and these covers look so darn cute, its hard not to grab out of the clean pile.

Macyn has more belly to her so she's not using cross over tabs still, but I love that each diaper has the option. With a petite 2yr old, this is an issue I had with a lot of diapers, but something that can come in very handy! McKenzie got to the point where she could only wear prefolds and covers so having this cover showed me how easy it is and I actually purchased more over a small time frame.

Lakeon's Boba Carrier 3G Review

Thank you Boba for the carrier to help with my review

"We started Boba because we believed Freedom Together with your kids is possible and we wanted to share that passion with parents around the world. We care about children, and we extend that caring to our customers every day through unrivaled quality products and outstanding customer support. Our products are designed, considering the needs of the child, mother, and father."

The Boba Carrier 3G includes more than a dozen features making this carrier truly one of a kind! Ideal for babies and toddlers alike, the Boba Carrier may be converted to a newborn carrier without an infant insert or any additional items and used well into toddlerhood. Their ergonomic design, patent-pending foot straps, and multiple adjustments make this carrier the perfect fit for your entire family.

I'm a mom that's new to the baby-wearing world and with all the carriers, slings and wraps out there, it could be a bit overwhelming trying to figure out which ones are the best and safest for baby. I've bought a total of 3 different baby carriers and none of them can compare to the Boba Carrier 3G

I was a bit concerned with how the Boba would fit me since I'm rather short at only 5'3. But, this carrier can be adjusted to fit almost any adult.
  • Weight Range: 7-45lbs
  • Waist Belt: 25”-58”
  • Fits Adults: 5’0”-6’3”
  • Shoulder strap length: 20”to 40”
The Boba is much faster to put on than wraps or slings. Who wants to spend 5 minutes in the parking lot trying to suit up in a wrap or sling? Not this mama. I adjusted the Boba to my size and all I had to do is click together a couple of buckles and I'm on my way.

Neater Feeder: Food Bowls for Animals Review

Thanks Neater Feeder for the review item to help with this post

I first saw the Neater Feeder on another blogger site. I entered to win one and didn't think anymore about it. Then after seeing our toddler slip in the water mess time and time again, Neater Feeder was brought back to my attention. I showed the website to my husband, we discussed it, and I decided I'd try to get one to review.

Here's what we were using before the Neater Feeder. The mat is just something my dad found from the the dollar store, and the bowls are the simple cheap ones you can find at Wal-Mart. We weren't really fancy when it came to what our dog ate out of but my dad insisted the mat was a good idea.

Fast forward to when we got our German Shepherd and I'm glad we had the mat. It helped with some of the water mess we faced on a daily basis, but it didn't resolve the issue entirely of nothing getting on the actual floor of our kitchen.

Here is the wonderful Neater Feeder for Large dogs. If you look in the right picture, you can see our little dog with her tiny bowl just on the carpet.

June 26 (16 weeks)
July 25 (Gender Scan)

Baby Names:
Mya Sue or Caden Gregory

Food cravings:
I think my food intake has went down a lot. I still want Taco Bell but we make tacos at home and then in the last week I've ate a whole 5lb sack of potatoes by myself. Baked potatoes with ranch... MMMMM!

Symptoms:
I hadn't had any symptoms other than my food cravings. It's been a very easy pregnancy so far.

Weight gain:
10 week starting weight: 225lb
13 week weight: 228lb. (I truly don't know how I gained 3lbs)

Gender prediction tests:
Child's hairline-[Girl]
Intelligender (at 10w1d)-[Secret!]
Chinese Calendar From BabyCenter-[Boy]
High heartbeat (at 10w1d)-[Girl]
Heart Beat is now in mid 140s compared to 170s at 10w

Sleep:
Since my 12 week update, I no longer sleep comfortably. Along with allergies, I'm getting up at least once a night to go pee and then again around 6am or so. I've also started getting back pain from sleeping on our very old mattress that we say we'll replace and never do! I just started having some Sciatic Nerve pain as well. Each pregnancy it happens sooner and sooner and its only while pregnant so I knew it would pop up in time.

Real Kids Shades Review

Thank you Real Kids Shades for the glasses to help with my review
"Since 2002, we’ve made it our mission to protect as many children’s eyes as possible from the damaging effects of UV radiation. We launched Real Kids Shades when we couldn’t find an inexpensive pair of real protective sunglasses for our own kids. The idea was simple. Offer affordable, real sunglasses designed just for kids. And manufacture them with the best materials available and ensure they block 100% of the sun’s harmful rays."

Our girls are 5 1/2 yrs old, 4 yrs old, and 16 months old. I've never really thought much about eye protection. Sure, we've bought the cute kids sunglasses, but they always ended up inside and never really worn out doors.

When it comes to our children, we always want to do the best we can for them. We use sun block during the hot months and coats, hats, and gloves during the cold months, so why not go the extra step and ensure their eyes are protected too!

Priti NYC Nail Polish Review

Thank you Priti NYC for the polishes to help with my review

Known among beauty insiders as the pioneering leader in luxury eco-friendly nail polish, the quick success and notoriety of PRITI NYC can be attested to it's founder, Kim D'amato. The idea behind PRITI NYC came alive during her pregnancy. D'amato made a conscious effort to switch to organic foods and health products, yet couldn't seem to find a way to beautify herself in the same natural manner.
In 2005, D'amato launched PRITI NYC with one simple mission: to support organic farmers and to decrease the amount of chemicals poisoning the Earth- and it's inhabitants- one manicure at a time.

While Priti NYC has many polishes to choose from, I was interested in their children's line of polish called Priti Princess. The Priti Princess collection is also non-toxic, free of Toulene, Formaldehyde, and DBP, and safe for kids of all ages. Another cute feature of this collection is that all the names are after Princess movies!

We picked out Red Riding Hood Cape, Rainbow Fish, and Witches Kiss for our review purposes.

The Itty Bitty Boutique: Spongebob Pop Art Tee

Thanks The Itty Bitty Boutique for the review item to help with this post

The Itty Bitty Boutique is an Online-Based Children's Boutique offering a variety of fun/funky clothing for little ones sizes NB-4T.

One day I decided to search Etsy for Spongebob birthday shirts. Even though I could've went the easy route and got a shirt from Walmart, I wanted McKenzie to have something more special to wear for her party. After finding a couple things I thought might do, The Itty Bitty Boutique popped up in my search and I KNEW that this would be her birthday shirt from the moment I saw it.
