New Muslin HALO SleepSacks Review

Thanks to Halo for the SleepSack to help with this review

Our founder Bill Schmid and his wife lost their first born to SIDS. From this tragedy, HALO and its mission were born. For over 15 years we've been educating parents about safe sleep practices and a portion of every sale goes to First Candle/SIDS Alliance and The Canadian Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths.  Since 2005, the American Academy of Pediatrics has suggested the use of wearable blankets.  Today, HALO SleepSack wearable blankets are the #1 trusted choice of hospitals, and are used nationwide to help babies sleep safely from the start.

Halo is currently in over 1,000 hospitals nationwide because of their Halo Safer Way To Sleep Initiative, which provides hospitals with SleepSack Swaddles to give one to the parents for their newborns. Because of this great idea, hospitals can educate parents of the risks of blankets and why swaddling can be so beneficial to a child. They also have a video on their website for safe sleep tipsHalo Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep Practices kits to childbirth educators to help further the cause of SIDS prevention.

I've been lucky enough to use Halo's products from our local hospital with all four of our children, and over the years I've come to love them more and more. While we barely used it with our first child, I see so many benefits and am thankful that I was given the chance to use them again with our other girls. Some babies need to be swaddled in order to feel secure, and this was the case with our girls. I actually had to wean our third child off of swaddles and in to the sacks as she aged because they helped her so much, and I'm happy to use them again with Mya.

I was so happy when Halo asked me to help them showcase this new Muslin SleepSack. The designs are so pretty and with her aging, a new SleepSack for Spring/Summer weather was perfect timing. Blankets aren't always a safe option for young children, but ensuring they stay warm during the night is a main topic among parents. We want our children to be comfortable, but they have to be safe, and SleepSacks are the way to go!

I chose pink because Mya's a girl, but you can also purchase these in blue and yellow. Since they're 100% cotton muslin they're extremely light weight and breathable, but can still give the comfort of a blanket and keep your child warm at night. Mya is currently 4 1/2 months old and weighing in a whopping 14lbs. Since I wanted to ensure she could use this all Spring and in to the Summer, I chose a size Medium. Medium is recommended for ages 6-12 months and weights of 16-24lbs. Since Mya is a little bigger than our older girls at this age, I wanted to make sure the weight was more appropriate than the age factor. She definitely has a lot of leg room to grow in to this and I have confidence that she'll be able to use it through the Fall when our temperatures start to dip down and she'll need a heavier SleepSack.

One of my favorite features of Halo SleepSacks in the inverted zipper. Since it opens from the bottom, you can easily change baby's diaper without needing to fully undress them or take them out of their SleepSacks. This is a great option for younger babies that wake in the middle of the night to feed and have to have diaper changes. Mya sleeps through the night, but the zipper also stays away from the face which is nice so you know baby isn't getting poked with it.

Every time I've worked with Halo I've had nothing but great things to say. This company is truly amazing and the products they offer are ensured to be safe for our children and that's the ultimate goal. Another plus about SleepSacks is that they're recognized as “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. With our third child I used some tighter fitting sleeping aids and chose not to use them with our fourth because I learned of the hip issues they can cause by baby not being able to move freely like in SleepSacks so this is yet another plus from their company.

You can purchase the SleepSacks and Swaddles on the Halo website for $28.95. BuyBuyBaby is a favorite story of mine, and they also carry Halo products. You can also connect with Halo via FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest
