Getting Nailed! Week 10 Color Me Monthly Nail Polish Review

Thanks to Color Me Monthly for the July polish to help this review

Color Me Monthly was founded by two sisters, Meghann and Caitlin, with the belief that high-quality doesn't have to be high-priced. CMM’s mission is to provide environmentally responsible products with the focus on delivering quality ingredients rather than flashy marketing. After-all, nail color should be safe, affordable, and fun!

I first saw Color Me Monthly briefly on The Small Things blog. I loved her chiffon purple from April's box and wondered about the company. One day I stumbled upon them again and decided to email about a review. Since I happened to get  response at the beginning of July, I was included in the July box shipment! Since it's a surprise color every month I was anxious to see what might be inside, but nervous to know if it's something I'd even like. I've had subscriptions to another nail polish company and I got the see the colors and switch them with another shade or skip that month, so spending money for something you might not use is an interesting concept. I couldn't help but see if this would work for me, so I gave it shot.

July's color was none other than "Panther" which is a shade of pink. I wear pink, A LOT. It's a main color of mine and always has been. When I opened the box I was happy to see that since it was pink I knew I would wear it. While it's similar to other shades of pink I have, another factor in good polish is how well it wears. Even though I have Acrylic nails, polish still chips off them as time goes on because of this "job of blogging" which entails my finger tips to tap away at a keyboard. In dealing with children, baths, diaper changes, dishes, cleaning, and everything else a mother does, I want something that will last me the two weeks in-between fills and still look pretty decent when those two weeks are up.

Left is fresh polish in sunlight and Right is fresh polish in the shade

Even though this shade was very close to the one I was wearing, I still did back to back pink for my nail fill. I do like this shade of polish and think it went on well. In the photos I'm wearing two coats of CMM with a clear coat on top and it lasted about two weeks. Since I do so much with my hands, the clear coat always starts to chip in the second week, and a couple days before my fill the polish barely started chipping on one nail. Since it coats well, a lot goes a long way and I'll enjoy putting this on my kids.

Overall, when you break down their process, this polish is probably $4-$5 per bottle. Since the boxes are small, shipping shouldn't be too much, so they're an average price depending on what brands you purchase. Even though shipping is "free" I feel like they mark up the polish for shipping. I was hoping I'd do this review, get an awesome never before seen color, fall in love with the system, and sign up for the monthly subscriptions but that didn't happen. While I know I'll wear this color, I have 5+ shades just like it in my polish drawer. Since I can't see the color coming to me each month, that just makes me too nervous to feel like I'm possibly throwing away $7 a month. Maybe if they changed it to where you could see the color every month and have the option to opt out or trade with other colors in "The Vault", it would be more appealing. While many will find this company appealing and fun, I have a harder time trying random shades of polish. I think for the average person that likes constant change, Color Me Monthly would be perfect for you!
