Hugaboo: Infant Seat Review

Big thanks to Hugaboo for the seat to help with this review

The Hugaboo was designed by a mother to give Baby 360 degree support. It provides a cushy, portable design that can be taken around the house where cuties are be able to observe their surroundings in complete comfort.

Having four little girls, we've seen a variety of milestones at different ages. While our first daughter did well and hit everything in the normal time frame, our second daughter had a lot of issues that caused her to receive several forms of therapy for about 3 years. One of the problems she had was weak muscles and the inability to sit up. I remember her never really crawling, or sitting up much, and one thing I would've loved to see is a product like Hugaboo!

When I first learned about Hugaboo, our youngest daughter Mya was just about two months old. When I read about the company, the product they offer, and why it was created, I knew I wanted to have one for my baby. After about 5 months of trying to get in contact with them, we finally chatted, and I was sent the red and black Hugaboo you see below.

Features
  • Suggested for ages 3-11 months
  • Upright seating position – helps stabilize back, sides and legs while they learn to sit up
  • 360ยบ of support – safely wraps your baby in plush comfort as they observe their surroundings
  • Attached seat bottom – prevents your infant from sliding onto the floor
  • Lightweight and portable – easily provides your baby a safe place to sit in any room of the house
  • The upright position also helps prevent against after-meal reflux.
  • Two toy attachments – perfect for floor time activities that develop sensory and motor skills
  • Washable fabric - cover can be spot treated for quick, easy cleaning
  • Safety Tested - CPSIA, ASTM F963-11 and European Regulation 1907/2006

As soon as our Hugaboo arrived, I couldn't wait to try it out! Mya was 7 months old when we started reviewing, and she weighed about 15lbs. I had trouble getting her legs in because it does have so much padding, but once she was in and sitting comfortably she was like a totally different baby! Being able to sit up straight was a new world for her. She was then rolling over but not yet crawling, so she was always laying down unless someone was holding her. Since she could sit up with the help of Hugaboo, she got to spend time in the playroom with her big sisters, watching them play and being able to play herself in the sitting motion.

The first day we started using it, Mya sat for about 45 minutes before wanting out to eat. I was very impressed because she's a clingy baby, but I found her to be happy, playful, and enjoying herself. With toys rings to attach her own items, she was able to go between her toys and her sister's toys without needing to have her's handed back to her. The rings make it so convenient for them to grab their toys after dropping, and since they're on the floor anyway, it doesn't have a long way to drop and they're always in reach for baby.

When my husband first saw Mya in the Hugaboo he wasn't too sure of because he said "she's going to fall over." Because Mya is bigger on the recommended age of this product, she did discover how to straighten her legs out and push with her feet until she falls to the side. As you can see above, her legs are still in the slots, and she can get back up on her own. It's a hit and miss if she'll do this or not, but I think she does it when she wants out. It seems to be her way of letting me know she's done and would like to be free on the floor.

I think the above photo says it all! Lounging in the comforts of a Hugaboo while staying safe, secure, and building muscle strength to learn to sit on her own!

Hugaboo retails on their website for a sale price of $65 with free continental US shipping. They offer limited special colors and patterns for higher, and some of those are made by the awesome Mother who invented this product. Since this is a mom invented item, it makes it that much more special. I'm so happy that she's decided to share her wonderful creation with the world and be able to help other babies learn to sit and build their muscles to become independent.

What a cute idea!! I love that its padded and essentially keeps them super close to the ground!! Even if they do roll over its not far!! And it seems like its pretty comfy to lean back and relax in :) so cute!!

This is such a better option than using a boppy and 2 other pillows to prop my babies up! Super cute prints, too!
