Little Tikes Fold 'n Store Picnic Table with Market Umbrella Review

Thanks to Little Tikes for the Picnic Table to help with this review

The Little Tikes Company was founded in 1970. It is a multi-national manufacturer and marketer of high-quality, innovative childrens products. In November of 2006, Little Tikes became a part of MGA Entertainment. Our headquarters and largest manufacturing facility are located in Hudson, Ohio. We also have a number of manufacturing and distribution centers in Europe and Asia. Our goal is to create and supply innovative products to customers and consumers around the world.

We've lived in our home for over three years now, and our family has grown by two more children. We love spending time outside while the kids play and rides bikes, but they're always asking to eat outside as well. Never having a true place to eat, we often told them no and then heard the whines and groans as we'd head inside, but when I came across the Little Tikes Fold 'n Store Picnic Table I knew it would be the perfect solution for us! Having four children, I liked how there's four sides to the table and plenty of room to grow for friend's children or my nephew's little boys during family gatherings. Once the girls saw this box arrive in the mail, they were over come with joy at the thought of a picnic table to call their own!

My husband always puts everything together. I'm not the best with directions, so he knows when we get something in the mail or make a purchase that he gets to put the item together. From the moment we opened the box until he said he was completely done was 1hr 15 minutes. I'm not sure if its supposed to take that long, but he wasn't too happy with the directions so it took a lot longer than we thought. Since it took so long to get together, our girls were in bed by the time it was finished, so I was anxious to for them to see it the next morning and get their thoughts on it.

From the moment the girls saw the table in our kitchen/dining room area, they were hooked! They wanted to eat breakfast at the table so of course I let them, and I could see how much of a difference this table was already making for them.

Since this table is love to the ground, it's really easy for our two year old to get on and off of. They often lounge at the table since they each have their own side, and they all sit well together. Later on they asked to color at the time so I said yes, and again, a great solution for them! We have one crayon box and normally they fight over the box at our kitchen table while they're standing in the chairs yelling to pass it from person to person. With the picnic table lower for them, they're able to have the box in the middle at one spot and all have room to color and reach crayons when needed.

Since we've had this table up, the girls do anything and everything they can on the table. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, crafts, coloring, etc etc etc it's on this table. Since it's light weight we're able to bring it inside for them instead of just storing it in the garage. Since our older two girls are back in school now, it's a nice way to still be able to use it besides just the weekends when we're all here and together.

The table is all plastic so it's easy to wipe clean after the various activities, and it looks as great inside as it does outside. Since the umbrella can come off and be stored in the handy bag that's included, it's a no brainer to have the table indoors. The umbrella does stay in the bag in the garage when not in use, but when it's stored, it folds up small and take up no space at all.

The umbrella comes in two pieces for easy storage. The shade is attached to half the pole and then the other half comes off to make it shorter. There's a handle that you simply fold up and the two pieces come apart, but it's very secure when in place because you have to give it a slight tug to release. This is a good tug because you don't want the kiddos playing around and hurting themselves, so while it would be difficult for children, it takes two seconds to take apart. The red button you see above is to open and close the shade and again, it's very easy to use. It slides with ease and I've never had to fit it to open or shut it. Such a quick set up and take down that the umbrella is my favorite part besides the over all room of the table being able to hold eight kids.

As you see in the Little Tikes stock photo, they have a good number of children around the table. While we have yet to fill up the table with more than our three older girls, the stock photo makes it seem like adding more kids wouldn't cause any issues. When I first saw our girls sitting on their own sides I did wonder how eight kids could fit, but after seeing our girls move around from spot to spot and ending up with two on a bench, they have plenty of room and they don't seem bothered by the closeness.

Overall, I love this table and so do our girls. It's held up so far with daily use inside and out, and it still looks brand new. While you can take out some screws to make the legs fold flat for storage, we have yet to do that and I don't know if we ever will. I'd be afraid of loosing the screws and other's not fitting like they should in the holes.

Retail value is pricey at $130 via the Little Tikes website, but if purchased while the kids are young, you'll be able to get years of use out of it so it all evens out in the long run. This table is intended for ages 2-8 years old and each bench can hold up to 200lbs per side.

I've always been a fan of Little Tikes and this is my second review with the company after reviewing an Activity Garden last Fall, and I'm still a supporter of Little Tikes and love our products we've gained over the years through reviewing and purchasing!
