Our oldest daughter is 7 1/2 and was using a backless booster. I'd been feeling for a little while that she needed to switch back to something more secure, and then I happened to be approached for a review opportunity, and one of the items listed with the Diono Monterey Expandable Booster.

The assembly for this booster is extremely easy. It comes in two pieces, so all you have to do is attach the base to the back and you're ready to use! Since it can be used as a backless booster, this is an easy assembly or dis-assembly depending on how you want to use it.

A favorite feature of mine with this booster is that it fully adjusts to fit your child. Since no two people are alike, this Monterey Booster gives you the option to adjust the height AND width of the seat to better fit your child. Since it goes up to 120lbs and 63" in height, you're able to truly let the seat grow with your child and ensure they're as safe as possible while in the car. Above is after adjusting to Madison's preference and as you can see, it's not only taller, but a little wider as well. She mentioned it was snug before I told her the width could change, she was excited to have that section adjusted.

Madison is 7 1/2 years old and 52 lbs so this seat is a great fit for her. I like the idea of a high back since the shoulder strap can be more secure in the right place and also to help protect her better in case of an accident. I know for her she's more comfortable now because the strap occasionally would hit her neck in a backless booster, and she loves how cushy and soft this seat is. I was a little surprised at the amount of cushion in this eat over all when comparing to another name brand "well known" company, but it makes sense because we all want to be comfortable when in the car.

Available in three colors, the Monterey is a full-featured, expandable high-back booster seat designed to fit growing children 40 lb to 120 lb. The adjustable head rest and deep, aluminum reinforced sides are lined with energy absorbing EPS foam for side impact protection and the reinforced seat bottom provides extra lap belt safety. This significantly strengthens the Monterey and provides superior defense against crash forces.

A simple-to-use dial on the back adjusts the width of the seat to fit a child’s shoulders up to 20" wide. The 11-position headrest gives ultimate flexibility and adjusts up to 6.5" in height with one hand for an easy, precise fit. As a fixed-position booster, integrated LATCH connectors and front adjusters allow for a safe and secure installation in seconds (LATCH use is optional) and keeps the seat in position when not in use.

The seat bottom has extra length for leg support and features thick AirTek™ foam and tapered sides for total comfort. Retractable, dual cup holders are extra-deep and angled to keep drinks upright.

Monterey can also be used as a backless booster and packs flat for travel and storage.
