Princess Cupcake Jones Review

I received products for free in exchange for a review. All thoughts/opinions are my own!

Ylleya Fields has three daughters and a son. While looking for books to read to her eldest daughter (when she was 2), Ylleya was struck by the limited number of titles featuring African American characters. Blending both of her daughter's images and personalities together, Cupcake Jones was created. Born in South America, Ylleya currently resides with her family in Cleveland, Ohio.  She enjoys writing and is currently working on new Princess Cupcake Jones stories.

There's three books in this series so far, and I was sent two for review. Our oldest daughter will be eight in October and she loves to read before bed. While we have a lot of princess books and fairy tales, I really like the idea of Princess Cupcake Jones because while we're all different, it's just another cute little girl and her imagination.

In this first book of the series, Princess Cupcakes Jones has lost her favorite tutu that she wears daily! Upon searching for it so the family can get their portrait painted, she goes about her house searching high and low, cleaning and organizing as she looks for the tutu. This book is 32 pages from front to back, but as you can see above, each page only has a couple sentences. It's great for children that can read with help for some bonding time, or can read independently at their choosing.

In this third book of the series, we explore Cupcake's joy of hunting through her mommy Queen's shoe closet! You'll see her try on different shoes, talk about the memories of different pairs her mother has told her about, and even a sweet special moment once her mom catches her. All little girls love dress up and imagination play, so this book is fun for those reasons. This book is also 32 pages from front to back with a couple sentences per page, and would be great range for young readers.

Princess Cupcake Jones books retail for $15.95 per book with three in the series so far. They're all hard cover and can be purchased directly from their website, along with other merchandise such as dolls, shirts, tutus, back packs, and more.
